Berlin! Le début de mon voyage...

Brandenburg Gate
So the day after turning 21, I headed out on a solo adventure to Berlin! (Not a bad way to celebrate, huh?) It was amazing!! The city of Berlin was incredible, and there was so much to do and see, I felt like I could have spent weeks there. The morning after my cuh-razy (not really) 21st birthday celebration, I dragged myself out of bed at like 5am to get to the Gare Saint-Jean and catch the earliest train to Paris. (There are no direct flights from Bordeaux to Berlin.) Oh man, I passed out and slept the whole way. Then, I took a bus from the Gare Montparnasse in Paris to the Orly airport, then hopped on a flight to Berlin. And then I took a train, transferred to another train, and finally got off and walked to my hostel. Whew! Everything went smoothly, but I was exhausted!!

Still, after resting on my bunk in the hostel, I decided to go ahead and take the train into the city center and walk around a little. The train was only about a ten minute walk from the hostel, along a quiet street with two grocery stores (how convenient!). The train ride itself was only 15 or 20 minutes to get to a station in the center of all the tourist areas downtown.

Even though I was super tired from traveling, I was really glad I decided to go out and walk around a little. Berlin is so pretty, especially in the late afternoon/early evening light. Just wandering down the main streets the hostel receptionist had marked on my map and looking at all the sights got me really excited for my next few days there! Here are some pictures!
